Homeopathy

Homoeopathy  –  David Arikian

An Introduction to Homoeopathy

Homeopathy is a form of holistic medicine in which treatment is tailored to the individual.  Homeopathy can be used alongside conventional medicine when necessary to give an integrated approach to your healthcare.

“The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way on easily comprehensible principles”. – Samuel Hahnemann, founder of Homoeopathy in the 1700’s.

The entire modern medical system was built on the premise of naming the symptoms so that a drug could wage war against them.  We have wars on people, wars on drugs, and wars on disease.  We are told to fight our bodies, our feelings, our creativity — we are told these things oppose natural order.

We are told that our own body works against itself by developing autoimmune disorders. Why on earth would our body try to harm itself?  This world, this earth, exists to fulfill all of our needs.   Nature is not meant to kill us.
Homoeopathic medicines are drug components made by homeopathic pharmacies consisting of plants, minerals and animal extracts.      Remedies (usually in liquid, tablet or powder form) are prescribed in accordance with a patient’s symptoms and health conditions while individual characteristics such as emotions and physical condition are also taken into account.  Conditions benefited by homoeopathy include :

  • diabetes,
  • arthritis,
  • bronchial asthma,
  • epilepsy,
  • skin eruptions,
  • allergic conditions, and
  • mental or emotional disorders.

Homeopathy-A New Hope for Autism

Isn’t it amazing to know that homeopathy has presented a new hope for autism?    Yes, that is right! Autism, which is a previously known incurable disorder, can now be seen on numerous occasions to be cured by homeopathic treatments

The outset of homoeopathic treatment, your Homeopath will need to know all about you in order to find the right remedy for you as an individual.   This will include past medical history, lifestyle and any general complaints.

In Homoeopathy the clinical diagnosis is not the only basis for prescribing medicines but individual patients mental state, behaviour, his/her food habits climatic changes, social economic conditions, colour and even sometimes racial characteristics makes a difference in treating the patient homeopathically.      That is why, in two similar well diagnosed cases, the homoeopathy medicine may not the same.

This initial consultation may last an hour or more and will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Homeopathy: Law of Cure

  • Symptoms disappear in reverse order of appearance.
  • Cure occurs from the more vital organs to the less vital and from the interior of the body toward the skin.
  • Cure occurs from top of the body downward.

Benefits of Homeopathy

“The long-term benefit of homeopathy to the patient is that it not only alleviates the presenting symptoms but it re-establishes internal order at the deepest levels, and thereby provides a lasting cure”.

Homoeopathy is a low-cost, non-toxic system of medicine.

The system of homoeopathic healing assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself.  It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment not the disease.

THREE IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES IN HOMEOPATHY TO FOLLOW :

The Law of Similar

The Law of Similar means matching the symptom picture of an illness or injury to the symptom picture of the homoeopathic remedy.    Like cures like any substance that can produce the symptoms of an illness in a healthy human being can cure those same symptoms in a sick human being..

The Law of Minimum Dose

The Law of Minimum Dose means using as little of the remedy as possible to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanism.   The more dilute the remedy, the greater its potency (Law of the Infinitesimal Dose): Homeopathic remedies are usually prepared through a process of diluting with pure water or alcohol and succussing (vigorous shaking) such that the more diluted a substance gets, the more potent it becomes.

Give one dose and wait to see what relief it brings. If things begin to improve do not repeat the dose unless the case stops improving before a full recovery is reached, or the same symptoms return (i.e. the case relapses). If the symptoms change significantly select a new remedy to fit the new picture. If in any doubt, wait, Giving the body more of a remedy than it needs will not improve or speed up the action of the remedy, if anything it may stop it from being effective.

Law of Principles

An illness is specific to the individual (a holistic medical model): Homeopaths consult compendiums called repertories to determine the remedy that most closely matches the patient’s symptoms.

Taking the Medicines

Homeopathy & Prescription  Homeopathy can be safely taken without side effects or interactions with prescription drugs. However, you should consult your Physician and a Homeopath before you do so.

Homeopathic medicines are delicate and need careful handling.  Touch them as little as possible.   In liquid form, keep the dropper away from touching the inside of the mouth as this will contaminate the dropper.  If this does happen wash and sterilize the dropper before returning to the bottle.

If using a teaspoon is more appropriate for the client to take the Medicine, please use a plastic spoon as it will leave the Homeopathic Medicine in tact, a metal spoon will change the vibration of the Medicine.

The pill should be tipped into the bottle cap or onto a clean palm and transferred to the mouth allowing it to dissolve under the tongue.   If possible give the dose half an hour before or after eating or drinking, cleaning your teeth or smoking.   Obviously this does not apply in an emergency where it should be give as soon as possible.      You can crush and dissolve remedies in water and sip them, but do not swallow the pill down with water, tea or coffee.

Anti-doting

Certain substances are known to antidote homeopathic remedies in some people. It is therefore advisable to avoid these substances if possible:   Coffee (including decaffeinated) mint (notably in toothpaste), camphor, menthol, eucalyptus (often found in vapour rubs and cold remedies).

Storage of Remedies

Homeopathic remedies last indefinitely, if stored correctly. Keep in a cool, dark place away from strong odours for example, camphor, menthol, moth balls, soaps, essential oils, perfumes etc.

Safety First

Serious injuries and illness should never be treated without seeking expert advice. Use your instincts and common sense, if you are worried call for help first, then give the appropriate remedy whilst you are waiting for help to arrive. In cases which are less serious or urgent, if symptoms show no improvement or return always seek professional help.   If you already see a homeopath regularly, please discuss self prescribing with them.   As with all medicines, keep out of reach of children and away from pets.

How Homeopathic Medicine are prepared

homeopathic medicines are prepared from a wide range of natural sources.  Over 75% of the medicines has their origin from the vegetable kingdom.  The rest of the Homoeopathic Medicines are prepared from chemicals, minerals, animal kingdom, nosodes and some  secretion such as the hormones.
The method of medicine preparation in homoeopathy, called as Potentisation, utilizes a medicinal substance obtained from initial substances found in the plant, animal or any other kingdom through a specific preparation /manufacturing procedure. A very small portion of any medicinal substance, as one part, is mixed with 99 parts of alcohol or distilled water.  The process is continued to higher levels up to 30c, 200c, 1000c, 10000c, 50000c, 100000c.

In fact this practice has shown that these drugs posses an inherent “potency” or effectiveness which increases their suitability as homoeopathic drugs. From this one can realize that there is infinitesimal original drug substance in the higher potency medicines. Actually it crosses the Avogadro’s limit. There is no detectable material in the potency higher than 24. What is left behind is the power or energy of the medicine. One may call it dynamic power, which is capable to induce definite changes in the body system to bring about the healing process.

THE HISTORY OF HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy has been well established for almost 200 years, although the principles upon which it is based have been known for thousands of years.    It was organized into a modern science by Samuel Hahnemann a German doctor and chemist. Hahnemann was instrumental in the development of ‘like curing like’, that is to say a substance that would normally create the symptoms of a disease in a healthy person will actually cure that disease in a sick person. in the development of ‘like curing like’, that is to say a substance that would normally create the symptoms of a disease in a healthy person will actually cure that disease in a sick person.

Although it was first described by Hippocrates 2,500 years ago, Homeopathy as it is practised today evolved 200 years ago.   The word Homeopathic comes from the Greek and means  “similar suffering”  This refers to the central philosophy that a substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person, can cure those symptoms in a sick person.

For example a person suffering from hay fever, might be given a remedy prepared from an onion, because a healthy person chopping an onion usually experiences watering eyes and irritation.

However, the substances are given in minute doses to avoid unwanted side-effects, making them safe to use even in situations where conventional drugs would be dangerous or inadvisable (e.g.  during pregnancy or when treating infants).
